Shepherds or Clowns in the Pulpit?

“A day will come when instead of
Shepherds feeding the sheep,
churches will have clowns
entertaining the goats.”
---Charles Spurgeon

Mr. Spurgeon's words ring true today!

Nowadays there is "laughing and jerking for spirituality", 'Christian Yoga' and 'Contemplative Centering Prayer' [that has been hijacked from India's occultism] , and 'Super Apostles' and 'Prophets' doing lying signs and wonders - all in the name of Christ of course.

It seems that people can get away with all manner of evil nowadays and not being held accountable. Abusing the Bible and the name of our LORD, God and Savior Jesus Christ has never been so easy. All one has to do is do what seems "right in their own eyes" (Judges 17:6); and of course make sure to 'market is really well'.

Judges 17:6
In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

Proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Jeremiah 5:31
"The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?"

Just how bad are things getting?
Read the following accurate and sobering article for a glimpse of the rampant heresy exploding across the world... in the 'professing' Church.
Laodicea is blooming quickly as there are a multitude of Trojan Horses in the camp!!!

Revolution by George Barna...What?

What is the church eating up these days?

The following review takes a close and sobering look at George Barna's influence in the church and how he is once again 'informing the church'. But just how Biblical is Barna's... Revolution?

"Test all things , hold fast to what is good."
1 Thessalonians 5:21

A Book Review by Pastor Gary Gilley
Revolution by George Barna

Some years ago a popular but chubby Christian author wrote a book on how to lose weight. The uniqueness about this situation was that the author had been on his diet only for a short time and had not reached his targeted weight. So dramatic had been his weight loss that he rushed to inform the rest of the world about his method. But, as almost anyone knows who has ever gone on a diet, it is relatively easy to lose weight, even in large amounts, at the beginning of a diet. Our author thought he had discovered the wave of the future in weight management and was eager to share his finding. Alas, he and his regimen have long since been forgotten.

All of this reminds me of George Barna's belief that he has caught the wave of the future concerning the church. Within twenty years, he confidently predicts, the local church will lose 50 percent of its adherents to alternative forms (p. 49). This prediction is inevitable, according to Barna, because he has observed the new ³spiritual diet² program of Americans and has determined they will continue on the regimen. This is the case even though Barna admits that these ³mini-movements² are small, disorganized, inadequately led and lack a strategic framework. But, not to worry, these signs of weakness are actually evidence that God is behind it all (pp. 54 55). I am reminded of a Yogiberra-ism, ³Prediction is very hard, especially about the future.²

Barna believes a Revolution has begun which is ³an unprecedented reengineering of America's faith dimension that is likely to be the most significant transition in the religious landscape that you will ever experience² (p. viii). He sees this Revolution as a ³viable alternative² to the local church (p. ix). And he considers himself a participant in the Revolution (p. x). As a matter of fact as the book progresses, the reader begins to realize that Barna is the Revolution¹s head cheerleader and chief source (he lists his organization as the only resource regarding theRevolution) (p. 141).

To Barna, the Revolutionaries are a breed of super saints who have rediscovered what the church lost somewhere along the way. This might be a good time to note that Barna (and his Revolutionaries) are largely reacting to the market-driven, seeker-sensitive church that he helped create. Having formed the consumer church, (largely through his surveys that revealed to church leaders what people wanted) he now recognizes that this church has lost its spirit. It has been gutted of its transforming power because for over two decades the paradigm has been to give people what they think they want rather than what God says they need. Is it any marvel then as the shine fades from this new model that people begin to realize they have bought a lemon? Of course Barna is disappointed with the consumer church; it has been constructed from the surveys, opinion polls, and felt-need blueprints drawn up in Barna's own workshop. The local church is now flush with drama, entertainment, social events, psychology and programs galore, but gone is the power and glory of God.

Barna is convinced that the Revolution is from God (pp 19, 70, 82, 136, 139) and we ³cannot fight God and win² (p. 137). We therefore are not to judge or even discern this movement; rather we need to jump on board (pp. 20, 127, 136, 139, 140). Whether the Revolution meets the test of Scripture is not important to Barna. God is doing a new thing and we better join up or be steamrolled. Resistance is futile. Fortunately Barna is not the last word on the church. God has reserved that for Himself...

Christian Publishing/Promotion of False Teaching

Surprise!!!
More Deception From Christian Bookstores Coming Your
Way!!!

Introduction by Chris Lawson
The following article is a small response from Bob DeWaay that we think is accurate and interesting. It is a response to a recent discernment article that Bud Press recently wrote regarding Christian Bookstores selling unbiblical materials. See Bud Press's informative discernment article here
http://www.christianresearchservice.com/bookstores3.htm

We too have done extensive research into these matters and we wholeheartedly agree with Bob DeWaay and Bud Press regarding this huge problem in the church.
We state empatically that is is time for Christian Pastors and all Christians to stand up and say NO MORE COMPROMISE to compromising Christians who have compromising Bookstores. God's sheep are being led into the polluted waters of unbiblical and heretical literature.

Jeremiah 2:13 speaks directly into this type of situation... "For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water." Christian Bookstores in many quarters have forsaken the LORD in that they are selling heresy. Furthermore, this heresy will only produce spiritual decay and more apostasy in the church.

The day has finally come where even in Christian bookstores everything has to be tested as to whether or not it contains spiritual poison - NO MATTER WHOSE MINISTRY IT IS, ours included !

For Jesus' sake it is high time to stand up for Jesus Christ and His Doctine. It is high time to speak the truth in love, correcting those who are in opposition to the faith which was once for all entrusted to the saints, and refuting and rejecting those who willingly promote the teachings of anti-Christ.

- This was sent in response to the January 28 Press Release and I believe gives excellent personal testimony to this major problem within Christian Publishing

Testimonial Letter

Bob DeWaay, January 28, 2005
Fellowship,I want to add a personal testimony to what Bud says. I just returned from the CBA (Christian Booksellers Association) convention in Nashville. My publisher, Lee Fredrickson, had a booth there and I was signing copies of Redefining Christianity for bookstore buyers and others. I was able to talk to over 300 people and warn them about the Purpose Driven movement.

However, the sad part of the story is the state of Christian publishing. Wednesday morning I went an hour early so I could see all the exhibits for myself. It was very discouraging. Over half the titles were of the self-help/life enhancement genre’. Some were neutral and some way off. Nearly all the rest of the titles were rank heresy. Destiny Image had a huge, prominent display promoting every heresy imaginable all the way from TD Jakes to a guy I debated 20 years ago, Mark Virkler, who claims he can teach you how to hear God’s voice so you can get your own personal revelations. In the middle of their many titles promoting heresy there was the ultimate irony – a title that said “How to Avoid Deception”! Well the obvious answer is to never read a book published by Destiny Image!

YIKESOne of the more interesting people I met there was a buyer who was looking for scholarly titles to stock in his bookstores. He told me he could find none there. People are looking for spiritual experiences and self-help; not truth. I gave the man my book and told him that it will help explain why the evangelical church is in the state it is.

We are in a vicious cycle it seems. The most prominent evangelical leaders like Rick Warren and Joel Osteen (a book by that particular “theological giant” was being promoted) are dominating the market, and influencing pastors. The pastors, wanting to cash in on Warren’s success, are following his example and dumbing down their messages. The people in the pew do not hear enough solid Biblical exposition to even know what they are missing unless they have been around long enough to know what it is supposed to be like. The people in the pew are the potential buyers of Christian Books. The Booksellers, being market savvy, publish books for this market. The market is for two things, a mystical spiritual experience or help solving life’s problems. Thus 90% or more of the titles reflect this. Rick Warren said it best in his first book: “People are not looking for truth, they are looking for relief.” So Warren thinks that is what we should offer them. Therein lays the problem. They think they are getting relief because they feel good through their spiritual experience and find some practical answers through Christian self-help books. But they have no clue that many of them are facing God’s wrath in eternity. If they are saved, they have no clue how impoverished their souls are becoming.

On a positive note, I met John MacArthur yesterday as he is in our city speaking for our local radio station. He spoke to a handful of pastors in the morning and to a large crowd last night. MacArthur’s messages were absolutely outstanding as he warned us about the war on the Scriptures and presented the truth of the gospel in a most powerful way. I thank God for him.I thank God for each of you and your love for the truth.
Blessings,
Bob DeWaay

Spread The Word Online Christian Bookstore
Spreading more than just the 'Word'

To the Reader: It has been almost two years since Christian Research Service first established contact with Spread The Word representatives and, eventually, its President, Steve Darrow. Since then, CRS has provided them with information and documentation pertaining to the non-Christian authors, books, and materials being advertised and promoted within Spread The Word's online Christian bookstore (correspondence on file).

To their credit, Spread The Word has removed non-Christian books from its inventory in the past, and should be commended. Certainly, providing Christian books and materials to the body of Christ on a massive scale is an important task, and can be overwhelming at times. However, once the materials are removed, implementing safeguards to prevent their filtering back into the body of Christ is equally important.

Accordingly, because of the constant flow of non-Christian authors, books and materials into the Christian church, it is extremely important that website managers continuously monitor their websites and databases to ensure that only solid, Bible-based materials are being presented to the body of Christ.

As with any online Christian bookstore, Spread The Word has the ability and capability to monitor, delete and block non-Christian authors and books from their own inventory and databases. And, when necessary, Spread The Word has the prerogative and authority to contact their distributors and publishers, and place a block on non-Christian books and materials.

As long as any bookstore claims to be Christian, it should be Christian from front to rear, and everything in between. But where lackadaisical attitudes prevail, the innocent and gullible suffer. Therefore, the spiritual welfare of Christians, as well as those searching for the real Jesus Christ and His salvation, should be foremost in the minds of everyone involved with and connected to the Christian bookstore industry.

A note of caution: This information contains quotes from New Agers and links to New Age sources. The New Age Movement is subtle, seductive and extremely dangerous to the spiritual welfare of the believer. Reader discretion is advised.

Courage or Faintness? Ehud Olmert Ready To Give Up Israel?

THE PHYSICAL BATTLE...

English Political Leader Courageously Standing Up For A Nation And For Freedom
"We shall not flag nor fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France and on the seas and oceans; we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air. We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be; we shall fight on beaches, landing grounds, in fields, in streets and on the hills. We shall never surrender and even if, which I do not for the moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, will carry on the struggle until in God's good time the New World with all its power and might, sets forth to the liberation and rescue of the Old."
--- Winston Churchill, June 4, 1940, speech before the House of Commons

Jewish Political Leader ...[Is he ready to give up Israel?] - Ehud Olmert
"We are tired of fighting, we are tired of being courageous, we are tired of winning, we are tired of defeating our enemies, we want to be able to live in an entirely different environment of relations with our enemies."
--- Ehud Olmert, June 9, 2005, speech to Israel Policy Forum in New York.

THE SPIRITUAL BATTLE...

Two Jewish Men of God Courageously Obeying God's Command,
Trusting in God, and Leading the Children of Israel to Freedom!
"Therefore Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Israel. Then He inaugurated Joshua the son of Nun, and said, “Be strong and of good courage; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land of which I swore to them, and I will be with you.” So it was, when Moses had completed writing the words of this law in a book, when they were finished..."
--- Moses to Joshua [Deuteronomy 31:22-24]

Jewish [Christian] Man of God Courageously Standing up for God's Truth and Grace
and Leading People into Spiritual Freedom Through Jesus Christ!
You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things. Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained. Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. This is a faithful saying:

For if we died with Him,We shall also live with Him.
If we endure, We shall also reign with Him.
If we deny Him,He also will deny us.
If we are faithless, He remains faithful;
He cannot deny Himself.
--- Paul the Aposlte to Timothy - Be Strong in Grace [2 Timothy 2:1-13]

WHERE DO YOU STAND?
And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Joshua [Joshua 24:15]

New Age Infiltration Through Christian Bookstores

New Age infiltration into the Christian Church

As of late, a handful of Christian discernment research ministries have been researching and exposing what is going on in Christian Bookstores (Online too) - - - New Age infiltration into the Christian Church.

Sadly, many Bookstore ministries are rejecting well researched evidence of New Age infiltration into the church. In many places, discernment ministires who call Christian Bookstores to account are perceived as 'Bible believing fundamentalist discernment folk'. It seems that Christian Bookstore owners who reject accountability think they are above being accountable to the local churches and even Body of Christ as a whole. Since when did Jesus and the Apostles promote New Age techniques anyway? And then sell it in the name of 'Christian Ministry'.

Please take the time to read this Blog Post and then click the link to read the full article. You will be shocked at just what is really happening and being received by countless Christians as 'deeper spirituality'. The bookstore owners ought to know better! We are grateful to Bud Press who has been exposing these issues.

We have posted this News Alert from Christian Research service again due to the grave inportance of this issue.

Read and test before you agree or sign
Before Christians agree to or sign anything on the dotted line, it is imperative to put what they are about to get involved in to the Biblical test (1 Thessalonians 5:21; 1 John 4:1). Then, if what is being tested contradicts the Bible, or is found to be disingenuous, deceptive or hypocritical, then it must be rejected. As with many online Christian bookstores, Spread The Word offers an affiliate
Registered Member plan. Should an individual, church or organization choose to open their own online Christian bookstore, Spread The Word can assist their membership affiliates in blocking unwanted books and materials from their online bookstores. But if the prospective member fails to do their homework and review the inventory beforehand, and pays the "$580" fee, the member will unknowingly promote Hinduism, Yoga, and other forms of the New Age Movement--as verified by the documentation below...

Exposing The New Apostolic Reformation

Discernment Resource from - Deception In The Church

Every Pastor Ought To Know About
The Deception Behind The NAR

THE NEW APOSTOLIC REFORMATION
What is it
and where is it going?

DVD & VHS Series
THE NEW APOSTOLIC REFORMATION - What is it and where is it going? is a DVD /VHS expose of the NAR and it's leadership of C. Peter Wagner, Cindy Jacobs, Chuck Peirce, Dutch Sheets, Bill Hamon, Jack Deere and others.
It features commentary by Bill Randles, Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Jacob Prasch, Mike Oppenheimer, Orrel Steinkamp, Gary Gilley, Dave Hunt, Sandy Simpson and others.
Go here for ordering details!

“The International Coalition of Apostles headed by C. Peter Wagner is the most influential purveyor of the New Apostolic Reformation, a term coined by Wagner....
"This organization is really an extension of the New Order of the Latter Rain whose influences and mentors include William Branham, Franklin Hall, the Hawtin brothers, and more recently Bill Hamon, Paul Cain and the Kansas City Prophets. The doctrines of the Latter Rain have influenced most of the televangelists on TV today, and so have crept deceptively into many denominations. The main heretical teachings of the New Order Of The Latter Rain, as ruled in 1949 at the General Council of the Assemblies of God held in Seattle, were as follows:
(1) The restoration of foundational apostles and prophets in the churches.
(2) The teaching and promotion of a transferable impartation or anointings that are passed on "by" the laying on of hands "by" the will of man.
(3) Confession and deliverance from sin to men.
(4) The impartation of spiritual gifts by the laying on of hands such as the gift of languages for missionary service and other "ministry skills".
(5) The extreme and unscriptural practice of imparting or imposing personal leadings by the means of the gifts of utterance, "word of knowledge" or prophecy.
(6) Distortions of scripture interpretations, which are in opposition to teachings and practices generally accepted among the Church...
"These doctrines deemed heretical by the Assemblies Of God in 1949, which are now common fare because of the Brownsville 'Revival" and the Third Wave movement, are all being promoted today in the New Apostolic Reformation...
"This video will expose, by way of video and quotes from written materials by adherents of the ICA, the false apostles, false prophets and false teachers of the New Apostolic Reformation...
"A number of the individuals mentioned by name in this video claim to be Bible-believing born again evangelicals. But in reality they are teaching and promoting doctrines that are not only dangerous, but tear down many or all of the core doctrines upon which the Christian Faith is built...
"Many of those we will examine on this video have fairly decent doctrinal statements they endorse, but by what they are teaching and doing they end up denying the basic doctrines of the Church...
"We want you to know that we do not hate those who teach heresy or those who follow their teachings, but rather admonish you in love if you have been deceived by teachings that deviate from the basic doctrines of the Faith. The reason for this video is the hope it will help many to come back to a complete faith in Christ and come under the authority of the Word."

Sound Doctrine or the Newest Fad?

Like cancer eating away a body, the church is being eaten up by those who preach and teach false doctrine.

Those who throw spiritual temper tantrums against truth endlessly cry out that we just need 'unity' and not 'doctrine'. These people also do tremendous damage to the Body of Christ.

But what does Jesus [God] say?
...and what did Paul and the rest of the Apostles say?
...and what does the very Word of God [the Scriptures] have to say?

"If any man will do his will,
he shall know of the doctrine,
whether it be of God,
or whether I [Jesus] speak of myself..."
Jesus ~ (John 7:17)

We are commanded to preach sound doctrine.

The world is perishing because of a lack of sound doctrine and the church is being led into grave heresies because of carnal teaching errors of wicked men. God's divine principles which teach us how to regulate our behaviour and how to counteract false teaching are being cast aside in the name of 'tolerance', 'don't judge me theology', 'emerging worship practices', 'alternative worship', 'pop-psychology', 'Word-Faith heresy', etc.

Countless churches today have not only departed from the doctrines of the Bible and are wallowing in the unclean doctrines of men, they are even running after 'Christianized' paganism that is pawned off as 'deeper spirituality. Much of it is really just repackaged forms of the teachings of the demons (fallen angels that have given mankind counterfeit spirituality, i.e. - yoga, contemplative prayer, breath prayer, Toronto/Pensacola manifestations, etc.) Paul the Apostle called this the didaskalious demonian, the teachings of the demons. It can be found in pagan relogions around the globe and many Christians are just repackaging it. See 'Christian Yoga' and 'Christian Wicca' [Witchcraft].

The Holy Spirit says very clearly...

"But the [Holy] Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith,
paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons..."
(1 Timothy 4:1).

Because Christians are giving heed to deceitful spirits and the doctrines of the demons, false teaching and sin in its myriad forms is smothering the life out of countless millions of souls! And for non-believers...BILLIONS of souls!!!

We dare not remain silent; even if it means upsetting some readers.

The Bible is very clear, we are to...
"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine...For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears."
(2 Timothy 4:2-3 )
Jesus taught sound doctrine, not the latest fad or book!
Mark 1:22
And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

Mark 12:38
And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces.

The Apostles taught sound doctrine, not the latest fad or pop-psychology 'self-help' book!

Acts 5:28
Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

Acts 13:12

Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

Acts 17:19
And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?
Scriptural advice concerning 'doctrine'.
1 Timothy 1:3
As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine.

1 Timothy 4:6
If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

1 Timothy 4:13-16
Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine ...Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

1 Timothy 5:17
Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

1 Timothy 6:1
Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.

2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness...

Titus 1:9
Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

Titus 2:1
But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine...

2 John 1:9
Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

2 John 1:10
If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed.

Revelation 2:14
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

2 Timothy 4:2-3
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine...For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.
---
Sadly, itching ears are everywhere in the church today.
Let us fight the good fight of [the] faith and preach and teach sound doctrine!
Lord Jesus come quickly!

Ken Blanchard - Leading Like Jesus?

Ken Blanchard - Leading Like Jesus?

In order to lead like Jesus, one ought to obey the Doctrine of Jesus and His heavenly Father. See our SRN Blog Post on 'Doctrine' to read about what the New Testament says about 'Doctrine'.

Interestingly, Rick warren has joined up withKen Blanmchard to train an army of Christians. Interestingly, Ken Blanchard has endorsed New Age books and occult literture. 'AS A CHRISTIAN', he has been involved with some things that should cause any Bible believer to stand up and hold up a giant discernment flag! But many Christians are crying, 'Don't judge'!

We encourage all readers to read some of these very revealing articles concerning Ken Blanchard's affiliations, connections, endorsements, etc.

Do some homework and find out just what Ken Blanchard is really involved in...

Rick's Purpose or Paul's Purpose?

Paul the Apostle's Purpose Began With Doctrine, not church growth methods.

"But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me."
Paul the Apostle (2 Timothy 3:10-11)

Paul the Apostles 'Purpose' always began with doctrine, as did our Lord Jesus Christ's. [See also Sound Doctrine or the Newest Fad?] Sadly, the purpose driven movement is not based on solid Bible teaching, but a mixture of church growth methods, pop-psychology[A Critique], and unbiblical ideas.

One has to ask, "Is the Purpose Driven church growth movement based on the Holy Spirit building the Church through the solid teaching of the Scriptures, or, is the Purpose Driven church growth movement growing because it has business and marketing principles at every turn and the church is running after the next 'new thing' to come along?" One must remember that just because a movement grows, does not necessariyl mean it is of God. Islam and Mormonism are growing extremely fast too and the Mormon church spends close to 700 million dollars a year on 'evangelism'. By what criteria do you 'test' a movement or a ministry? See the following article by Sandy Simpson to learn How To Discern, Test & Judge Rightly

The Following is an interesting post from Rick Warren's Ministry Tool Box dated Jan 18, 2006.

Balancing the biblical purposes in a Charismatic/Pentecostal church
by Dennis Baril (Rick Warren's Ministry Toolbox Issue #242, 18 Jan 2006 20:41:51 -0800)

"Charismatic churches all across the country are becoming more balanced and healthy as they seek to apply the Purpose Driven model of ministry to their church. These churches are discovering that they don't have to lose their theological distinctiveness to become churches committed to the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. Here are five principles one pastor discovered during his church's purpose driven journey....

BUT IS 'PURPOSE DRIVEN' REALLY A HEALTHY THING FOR THE CHURCHES?

And should Christians just jump on the bandwagon of what seems to be a global Christian craze?

Islamophobia? ...in the U.K.?

Islamophobia? [Excerpts]
Daniel Pipes

FrontPageMagazine.com, October 25, 2005
An Islamist group named Hizb ut-Tahrir seeks to bring the world under Islamic law and advocates suicide attacks against Israelis. Facing proscription in Great Britain, it opened a clandestine front operation at British universities called "Stop Islamophobia," the Sunday Times has revealed.
Stop what, you ask?

Coined in Great Britain a decade ago, the neologism Islamophobia was launched in 1996 by a self-proclaimed "Commission on British Muslims and Islamophobia." The word literally means "undue fear of Islam" but it is used to mean "prejudice against Muslims" and joins over 500 other phobias spanning virtually every aspect of life.

The term presents several problems...

First (Reiki) Healer Employed by the NHS

What is Reiki?

First a Word from God Himself about occultism and occult practices.

"When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do." (Deut 18:9-14)

What is Reiki?
Simply put, is just another old form of occultism that has be 're-discovered' today and repackaged for the gullible masses.

The definition from the Alternative Health Dictionary on Reiki states:
"Reiki (ray-key) (reiki healing, Reiki system, reiki therapy, Usui method of Natural Healing, Usui Reiki, Usui shiki ryoho, Usui shiko ryoho, Usui shiko ryoho system of healing, Usui System, Usui System of Natural Healing; formerly called leiki): A form of chakra healing and a variation of the laying on of hands. It encompasses Reiki I and a form of distant healing (absent healing). Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered Reiki in the late 1800s, in Japan. Reiki therapists channel reiki, universal life energy power, through their bodies for storage in the solar plexus, and into dis-eased individuals for rebalancing....Reiki works simultaneously on emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual levels and does not have any limitations....The Reiki system's principle is that activated Sacred Universal Symbols evoke healing energies. The word reiki combines two Japanese expressions: rei, which means spirit or soul, and ki (energy, life force)."

And also a definition from the Wiccan Pagan Dictionary on REIKI states:
"REIKI - a Japanese art of hands - on/hands off healing energy. Rei meaning universal & Ki meaning life force or energy. it can only be transfered to the student by the reiki Master."

----

The 'universal energies' as mentioned above are just buzz words for 'occult power'. Whether it be Ki (Japanese term), the Star Wars 'Force', Shakti-pat, the Kundalini Serpent Power of Yoga, etc, it all has the same source, Satan. It is all a counterfeit of the Holy Spirit and goes by many names.
Reiki then can be classified as a form of 'energy channeling' which is found in the kingdom of the of the occult arts. Reiki than is prohibited by the God of the Bible (Deuteronomy 18:9-14). The reason for God's prohibition of occultism? God knows that when mankind opens the door to the Prince of darkness, satanic power comes through like a flood. The end result...destroyed human lives.

I saw the news clipping below last night in a store window here in Edinburgh.
The NHS (National Health Service) is now employing people who practice Alternative, or New Age Medicine (Reiki, etc.)

FIRST HEALER TO BE EMPLOYED BY NHS
(NHS stands for the National Health Service here in the United Kingdom)
Source: bbc.co.uk Woman's Hour

In 1995 Angie Buxton-King's son, Sam, was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia. Throughout his illness and up until his death three years later, Angie practiced 'healing' on Sam. The benefits of the healing were observed by an intrigued Senior Nurse Stephen Rowley, who later employed Angie as the NHS's first paid healer. Angie Buxton-King talks to Jenni about how her son's death inspired her to extend her healing abilities to others. Stephen Rowley will also be in the studio, discussing what prompted him to employ Angie, and the reaction they got from both patients and colleagues... Read Full Article

THE BEACON OF HEALING LIGHT ?
(The following is from the Angie's Buxton-King website, The Beacon of Healing Light)
Source: http://www.angiebuxton-king.com/index.html
"Angie Buxton-King is a pioneer of healing within the N.H.S. She has worked as a healer for the past ten years. A practising Reiki Master / N.F.S.H healer / workshop facilitator, her mission is to make healing available within the N.H.S."

"She has worked as a healer for a leading London hospital for the past five years. Her work has been featured many times on TV and radio and been the subject of numerous articles in the national press and health magazines. Angie has recently completed a book of her experiences, which will be published by Virgin Books in July 2004, entitled The NHS Healer [Angie-Buxton King]."

WARNING...
REIKI IS A FORM OF NEW AGE OCCULTISM

Let's take a closer look at the Angie Buxton-King website, The Beacon of Healing Light. It is very clear that the first NHS paid (Reiki) healer is offering more than meets the eye, and for children too. These are healing therapies...? ...and for children too?

Reiki, Meditations on Living with Angels, Group Astral Travel, Past Lives, Distant Healing, etc.

http://www.angiebuxton-king.com/html/publications.html
or http://www.angiebuxton-king.com
Angie Buxton-King has also written a new book called The NHS Healer published by Virgin Books. Angie Buxton-King also promotes Reiki workshops and Meditation workshops. Angie Buxton also does 'healing work' on animals and children; and she does her work in hospitals too. Her website The Beacon of Healing Light also explains Angie Buxton-King's Hospital and Private work.
Woman and Home magazine says of her new book, The NHS Healer, "This simply cannot fail to move even the most sceptical reader."
IT MUST BE NOTED HERE THAT REIKI "WORKS"...[well...so they say]
Reiki does "work" [and incurs hazards too] and most people are enamored with it because it produces some results. But at what cost? New Age techniques and occult arts "work" because they draw on "occult" power. Along with this one must remember that Pragmatism's Cry has always been, "If it "works", do it!" The Devil knows it works, and undiscerning humans go for the bait all the time. Sadly this is what has happened here.
IS REIKI SAFE?

Let's take another look at 'healer' Angie Buxton-King who makes a living 'channeling energy' as does Graham King who uses "the power of cosmic energy.

Children receive spiritual healing on NHS: London hospital appoints 'energy channeler' Graham King to help young leukaemia patients with side-effects of chemotherapy

LIFE HEALTH: `I now know we can all channel energy'; Angie Buxton is the only spiritual healer working within the NHS. She tells JULIA STUART how her own experiences of illness and loss led the way to her new career.(Features)
The Independent; 22 September 2003, Julia Stuart

REMEMBER WHAT THIS REALLY IS:

Annie Buxton's Reiki (channeling energy), is a form of New Age alternative medicine. WE GIVE THE FOLLOWING WARNING REGARDING THE REIKI PRACTICES AT THE BEACON OF HEALING LIGHT: "Angie Buxton-King is a pioneer of healing within the N.H.S. She has worked as a healer for the past ten years. A practising Reiki Master / N.F.S.H healer / workshop facilitator, her mission is to make healing available within the N.H.S."

WARNINGS ABOUT NEW AGE MEDICINE!

According to the
by Dr. John Ankerberg and Dr. John Weldon
(Harvest House, Eugene, OR, 1996, p. 477-508)

New Age Medicine - Description.
"New Age medicine is the "health" branch of the New Age Movement that involves the application of generally Eastern/occult methods to healing while stressing treatment of the whole Person—body, mind, and Spirit The term is frequently used interchangeably with "holistic medicine," although the two are not necessarily equivalent. The term "alternative medicine" is also used interchangeably, but it may or may not include New Age approaches; for example, it may involve novel methods or new approaches to standard treatments which are not fully tested or demonstrated."

New Age Medicine - Founder.
"None per se. The term "holistic" (from the Greek holos, meaning "whole" or "entire") was apparently first coined by South African prime minister Jan Smuts in his 1926 book Holism and Evolution, a philosophical work not connected to medicine. Today, the term "holistic" is applied to many different fields, e.g., holistic psychology, but usually in connection with a spiritual or cosmic perspective."

New Age Medicine - How does this claim to work?
"Proponents claim that relioance on allegedly "natural" and "spiritual" methods of healing offer medical care superior to that of modern orthodox medicine. Recourse is often made to various concepts about so-called invisible "life energies" as the reason it "works."

New Age Medicine - Scientific Evaluation.
"New Age Medicine has been "discredited, despite numerours and vocal claims to the contrary."

New Age Medicine - Examples of Occult Potential.
"Altered states of consciousness, psychic healing, channeling, divination, shamanism, and many additional forms of occult practice."

New Age Medicine - Major Problem.
"Leading people into ineffective, dangerous, or occult practices and philosophies in the name of healing and health."
New Age Medicine - Biblical/Christian Evaluation.
"Due to its generally fraudulent or occult nature, the entire realm of New Age medicine, with few exceptions, is biblically or ethically prohibited. On the other hand, a truly Christian holistic medicine is possible where a scientific medical basis is maintained and emotional or spiritual problems that may affect physical health are dealt with on the basis of biblical presuppositions and teachings."

New Age Medicine - Potential Dangers.
"False diagnosis and treatment; worsening of a physical condition or death; fraud; occult hazards: physical, psychological, spiritual harm.

The comprehensive New Age Health Listing in the Appendix offers a categorized evaluation of some 700 alternative/New Age practices."

And lastly, quoting Medical writer Kurt Butler ("A Consumer's Guide to Alternative Medicine,'" Buffalo, NY: Prometheus, 1990.),

"Practicing medicine is serious business because it has a major impact on people's quality of life, and, at times, deals directly with life or death."

And to recap what we looked at first,

God's Warning against occultism from Deuteronomy 18:9-14
"When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. 10There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
